President Donald Trump aims to significantly expand his immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) detention capabilities to hold more criminal illegal aliens. Employment at the detention center will be filled with Teamster union members, but that has not stopped Democrats from protesting against the opposition.
Later last month, ICE staff announcement “Immediate Reopening” of Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey, jurisdiction over the sanctuary. The detention center has the ability to hold up to 1,000 illegal criminal aliens for the agency.
“The detention centre was the first to open under the new administration,” said Caleb Vitero, who was in operation at the time, saying the detention centre's proximity to Newar Liberty International Airport, which is a major location for the ice.
The detention center “helps promote timely processing of individuals in custody. We pursue President Trump's mandate to arrest, detain and remove illegal aliens from our community,” Vitello said.
The reopening of the facility is now the largest in detention space as the agency is now maximizing its detention space and more than 47,000 beds are now filled.
Democrats and their allies in the large migration lobby continue to support the sanctuary policy. Most notably, Newark mayor Las Baraka (D), who is currently running for governor of New Jersey in the busy Democratic field.
Baraka suggests that Delaney Hall can be stopped from reopening, saying, “Delaney Hall cannot be legally opened in Newark at this point without meeting city property use requirements, inspections and permits.”
“Unless the process, immigration detention centres are not welcome here,” Baraka said. “Ice's stated intention to round up the “criminals” is a thin veil that does not hide their plans to infringe on people's rights, sec the Constitution and break down our democracy. ”
Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Andy Kim (D-NJ) have both Condemnation The detention center has also reopened.
“The reopening of Delaney Hall will not secure borders or modify the immigration system. Kim spoke of the planned reopening.
This week, mass immigration activists called for the New Jersey Alliance for Roads, Winds, Spirit Winds and Immigrant Justice to protest outside Delaney Hall and shut down facilities.
Baraka appears to have joined the activists at a press conference and called Trump a criminal.
“When the ice came and raided the Newark city fish market, they asked people about their papers, pretending to look for criminals,” Baraka said. I said… “But I have to tell them they don't need to go too far to find criminals. They have criminals in an oval office, so they need to go to an oval office,” he added.
As part of a plan to reverse former President Joe Biden's policies, the Trump administration was able to quickly expand its ice detention space by reopening closed prisons that had long been contracted with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
