Trump to Meet with House Republicans After Venezuelan Leaders’ Detainment
President Donald Trump is set to meet with House Republicans on Tuesday morning, shortly after an attack in Venezuela led to the detention of its leader, Nicolas Maduro.
According to multiple sources, Trump will speak to Republican lawmakers at the newly named Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Performing Arts Center. However, it’s still unclear if his comments will be made private or broadcasted publicly.
The House Republicans will gather at the Trump Kennedy Center for a daylong policy forum, looking ahead to the legislative agenda for 2026, as noted in emails shared with Fox News Digital. Interestingly, this meeting coincides with the House members’ return from a two-week year-end break.
A Republican lawmaker mentioned that many believed Trump’s focus would undoubtedly center on Venezuela during his address. “I’d guess he’ll spend about 30 minutes on Venezuela and just five on policy,” one official remarked, while another suggested we might hear a typical rally-style speech, though unpredictability is always a factor.
Rep. Mike Haridopoulos from Florida echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the president’s comments on Venezuela would be crucial. He pointed out that if there’s no recognition of Maduro from major players like the U.S. and the European Union, it puts Maduro in a tricky position.
Meanwhile, Rep. Wesley Hunt from Texas, who is running for a Senate seat against incumbent John Cornyn, expressed anticipation that Trump might touch upon the upcoming November election. When asked what he expected from Trump, Hunt mentioned the president might discuss his administration’s achievements and the recent developments in Caracas, aiming to solidify his agenda for upcoming midterm elections.
Despite the day’s intended focus on legislative strategies, there’s a palpable sense of urgency among Republicans to align their messaging moving forward.
