Trump Set to Meet Macron After G7 Summit
President Donald Trump is set to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles after the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains on Monday.
The dinner on Wednesday will follow multiple meetings and consultations with allied leaders and coincides with the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence Day. Officials are calling it a significant moment for Franco-American relations.
Versailles, known for its history as the residence of French kings from Louis XIV to Louis XVI, frequently hosts world leaders in its lavish Hall of Mirrors, among its 2,300 rooms.
Since the 2017 election, Macron had previously welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin to his residence, although relations have since deteriorated.
During the G7 summit, Trump is expected to engage in discussions with leaders from Canada, Germany, Italy, and Japan about pressing issues such as artificial intelligence, illegal immigration, resilience in supply chains, and economic growth. They will also focus on bolstering mineral supply chains that are crucial for advanced technologies.
Additionally, Trump plans to hold separate talks with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates regarding a potential agreement with Iran aimed at resolving ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
A source mentioned that Trump may discuss strategies for demining the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. allies, reflecting increasing confidence in the negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is also expected to participate in the summit, with the ongoing situation in Ukraine likely taking center stage during discussions.
While it’s uncertain whether Trump and Zelenskiy will meet formally, it’s likely they will connect during the event’s informal moments.
President Trump is set to depart for France early Monday, following the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on Sunday evening.
