Trump’s Upcoming Address on Election Interference
President Donald Trump has announced that he will speak to the nation on Thursday at 9pm ET. This was shared on Monday.
According to two White House officials, Trump’s address will focus on foreign interference in the 2020 election. The address will include figures like CIA Director John Ratcliffe, FBI Director Kash Patel, Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, and Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullin.
There’s some hesitation about which countries Trump might identify during his remarks.
New evidence regarding foreign interference could potentially challenge the conclusions reached by the Biden administration quickly after taking office in January 2021.
A joint report from Biden’s Department of Justice and DHS, released in March 2021, stated that officials from Russia, China, and Iran reported multiple incidents that “significantly impacted the security of networks related to U.S. political organizations and campaign activities during the 2020 federal election.”
However, the report claimed that the Justice Department, FBI, and DHS found “no evidence that foreign government actors interfered with voting, altered votes, or compromised the integrity of voter registration information during the election.”
Additionally, a National Intelligence Council report from March 2021 indicated that there was no evidence of foreign attempts to change technical aspects of the voting process.
- Russian state actors aimed to discredit Mr. Biden while supporting Mr. Trump and undermining electoral confidence.
- Iran executed a covert influence campaign against Trump’s re-election.
- Other foreign entities, including Hezbollah and Cuba, also attempted to sway the election.
Notably, intelligence assessments have minimized the likelihood of Chinese interference, which some have critiqued as outdated.
In August 2020, the FBI provided information alleging that Chinese nationals conspired to skew mail-in votes for Biden.
An FBI document from September 2020, brought to light by Senator Chuck Grassley, indicated that intelligence about a supposed scheme originated from an unnamed Chinese official.
This alleged scheme entailed the Chinese regime producing fraudulent U.S. driver’s licenses to facilitate fake mail-in votes for Biden.
Patel, last year, asserted that these allegations had been confirmed.
On July 27, 2020, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that they had seized numerous packages containing fraudulent documents, including many fake driver’s licenses, with most coming from China and Hong Kong.
Some believe political motivations played a role in suppressing certain intelligence reports.
During a January 6, 2021 report, an ombudsman for the intelligence community noted that analysts were hesitant to characterize China’s activities as undue influence, expressing concern that their analyses might support specific policies.
Moreover, the Trump administration claims to have uncovered vulnerabilities in voting machines that could be exploited. A report detailing these vulnerabilities has reportedly faced delays, with worries that its release might damage voter confidence.
Blaze News has sought comments from the White House on these developments.
