Trump urged to support Israel in its fight against a nuclear Iran

The senior retired military commander has issued warnings about Iran's nuclear capabilities and is calling on President Donald Trump to cast our support behind Israel. In a letter issued by the National Security Institute (Jinsa) and signed by 77 retired US generals and admirals, they say it is “time to get Israel to finish work against the Iranian axis.”

The letter, issued hours before President Trump's speech at a joint Congressional meeting, argues that nuclear Iran poses a threat to U.S. national security. They warn that there will be not much time to stop Iran's “marching to bombs” and say the Islamic Republic will not be allowed to “cross the nuclear threshold.”

“What Israel is looking for from the United States is to help ensure the maximum effectiveness of its actions and manage the risk of retaliation in Iran. We need to provide it promptly,” the letter says.

The previous leaders have not underestimated military action and say diplomacy is “preferred,” but they doubt Iran will take part in the consultations in good faith.

“Twenty years of repeated negotiations with Iran have had one dangerous consequence. The world's leading terrorist sponsors are now on their aspirations to develop the world's most dangerous weapons.”

The retired general and admiral are calling on the United States to provide Israel with munitions, weapons systems and “the support necessary to ensure the effectiveness of their operations against this common threat.” They argue that by supporting Israel in the fight against nuclear Iran, the US protects its own influence in the region.

The Iranian administration has recently been accused of conspiring to assassinate Trump, and the president has said it will lead to the Islamic Republic being “eliminated.”

During his recent trip to Israel, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Iran the “biggest source of instability” in the Middle East. He added that the Islamic Republic is “behind all terrorist groups behind every act of violence.”

Rubio went on to say, “Nuclear Iran can never exist — nuclear Iran, which itself can retain immunity from pressure and actions. It can never happen.”

At the same press conference, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a stubborn opposition to nuclear Iran, said, “Israel and the United States should put their shoulders in combating the threat of Iran.”

The theme of President Trump's speech on Tuesday night is “User Dream Update,” but he is still expected to talk about domestic and foreign issues. One of them could be a threat to nuclear Iran.

On February 4, President Trump declared the return of the greatest pressure on the Iranian administration and signed a national security memorandum of understanding vowing to block any path to nuclear weapons.

“Iran is the world's leading terrorist sponsor and supports Hezbollah, Hamas, Hauchis, the Taliban, al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks,” reads the memorandum.

In the memorandum, President Trump also states that “Iran is responsible for the horrifying Hamas massacre committed on October 7, 2023.”

Tonight, some audience members at the joint address may have experienced firsthand the brutality of an Iran-funded terrorist group. Noah Algamani, a former Hamas hostage rescued by the Israeli Defense Forces in June, will be present as a guest of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
