Trump Pushes for Todd Blanche’s Confirmation as Attorney General

President Donald Trump is urging Republican senators to confirm Todd Blanche as the U.S. attorney general ahead of his upcoming confirmation hearing next week.

Blanche, who stepped in as acting attorney general after Pam Bondi’s departure in April, is set to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he is facing considerable opposition from Democrats who seem to be against his confirmation.

This past week, President Trump reaffirmed his support for Blanche, stating on Truth Social that he has been doing a “phenomenal job.” He highlighted Blanche’s achievements at the Department of Justice, noting significant decreases in homicide rates and a surge in arrest rates for violent crimes.

“Todd Blanche is doing a phenomenal job as Acting Attorney General of the United States. Under Todd’s incredible leadership at the Department of Justice, homicides have fallen to their lowest levels since 1900, and just recorded their largest single-year decline on record,” Trump remarked. He also pointed out that over 500 million doses of drugs have been seized, which he claims has saved countless lives. He contrasted this progress with what he described as the failures of the Biden administration.

He continued, “Todd has fought for religious freedom, ended the weaponization of the justice system, and has maintained integrity in elections. He stood firmly by my side during legal challenges against me.” Trump emphasized that every Republican senator should swiftly vote to confirm Blanche.

Blanche is expected to face tough questions from Senate Democrats about the Anti-Weaponization Fund as part of the hearing. Conversely, the Republican majority on the Senate Judiciary Committee, including Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, appears ready to back him.

Moreover, Republican lawmakers are likely to push Blanche to halt the sale of chemical abortion pills by mail and seek stricter oversight regarding the IRS’s handling of the leaked tax returns belonging to the president.

With a busy day ahead, Blanche’s confirmation hearing is set to start at 9 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday.
