Trump’s Inaugural Flight on New Air Force One
On Wednesday, President Trump will embark on the inaugural flight of the newly designed Air Force One as he travels to North Dakota to inaugurate the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. This trip coincides with the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Alongside the presidential motorcade, a ceremonial Rough Rider group will recall the legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt, highlighting the volunteer cavalry regiment that shaped his public persona, as noted by White House officials.
The new aircraft, a 747 donated by Qatar, was unveiled just last week, with Trump showcasing its striking red, white, blue, and gold color scheme. He remarked that it represents “a flying White House with unprecedented luxury.”
According to White House Press Secretary Olivia Wales, “President Trump will create history twice in one day: aboard the new Air Force One for its first flight and dedicating the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota.” She emphasized the links between Trump and Roosevelt, suggesting that Trump embodies the spirit of a “man in the arena” reminiscent of Roosevelt’s legacy.
Several officials, including Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, who played a vital role in establishing the Roosevelt Library, will accompany the president. Governor Kelly Armstrong is also expected to meet with Trump and join him throughout the day.
There’s a sense of celebration in the air. Trump has been keen on acquiring a new presidential jet and even opted for a change in the color scheme from Jackie Kennedy’s original baby blue and white, saying, “We loved baby blue, but it’s time for a change.”
Photos of the plane’s interior showcase a calming palette of beige, cream, and tan, featuring a private office for Trump and a conference room for staff. Officially part of the Air Force fleet, this aircraft will transport the president, his team, the Secret Service, and media personnel. The aircraft, valued at $400 million, will act as a temporary solution until the new Boeing 747s are completed.
However, those new jets are experiencing delays and budget overruns, with their delivery pushed back to mid-2028. Critics have voiced concerns regarding Trump’s acceptance of the plane, given its Qatari roots and the ethical dilemmas involved. Trump insists he received it “for free,” despite the costs linked to its refurbishment, which could reach around $1 billion.
A senior administration figure reassured that “no shortcuts were taken” and that the new aircraft meets all necessary safety requirements. The official noted that it has undergone extensive inspections and adheres to FAA standards.
Looking ahead, Trump plans to use the new Air Force One for upcoming trips, including a NATO summit in Turkey and an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in China. But for now, the focus is on the dedication ceremony for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, an area deeply connected to Roosevelt’s life.
After experiencing personal losses, Roosevelt spent time as a rancher in North Dakota, and these years were instrumental in shaping his presidency. This connection is a significant reason why his library was established in North Dakota rather than in his birthplace of New York.
The library recognizes Roosevelt’s conservation efforts, which secured 230 million acres of federal land. All living presidents have been invited to the ceremony, but Trump will be the only one in attendance, a library spokesperson confirmed.
The library enhanced its exhibits using AI and modern technology. There’s even an intriguing possibility that Trump may have a virtual encounter with Roosevelt during his visit. Governor Burgum expressed enthusiasm about the event, remarking on the parallels between the two presidents, both of whom had a lasting impact on America and the world.
The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library is set to welcome the public on July 4th.
