Trump Warns Russia About Tariffs Due to Ukraine Conflict

Trump Issues Warning on Tariffs If Russia Fails to Act

On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of “severe” tariffs on Russia if the country does not resolve its issues with Ukraine in the upcoming weeks, particularly when he meets NATO Director Mark Latte.

Trump stated that if Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn’t cooperate with Ukraine within 50 days, the US would impose 100% tariffs on Russian goods. He expressed his frustration with Putin, mentioning plans to send additional weapons to Ukraine through NATO.

In Congress, both Republicans and Democrats are working on a bill that would permit Trump to impose 500% tariffs on Russian uranium, gas, and oil as an economic sanction against Moscow.

During a meeting, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Russia, saying, “It wasn’t my war, it was Biden’s war. I’m trying to get you out of it. We want to finish it.” He mentioned his disappointment with Putin, indicating he had hoped for a resolution two months prior.

Trump’s remarks seem to highlight key aspects of his administration’s foreign policy concerning the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Although it appears he aimed for peace, he criticized Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky regarding an initial deal. Earlier in July, the administration had halted the shipment of Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine, but Trump soon reversed that decision.

Since the conflict began, the US has provided over $66.9 billion in weapon systems to Ukraine, according to the State Department.

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
