Mr. Freeland's resignation casts doubt on Mr. Trudeau's political future amid concerns about inflation and immigration.

Prime Minister Trudeau is currently facing calls for his resignation from his critics. However, a vote of no confidence in the government is not imminent.

Trudeau made an unannounced visit to Mar-a-Lago last month after President Trump threatened to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods. Specifically, President Trump is threatening to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico because of their failure to curb illegal immigration and illegal drugs flowing into the United States.

President Trump called the meeting “very productive.” The president-elect told the prime minister that if Canada can't resolve border issues and trade deficits, he intends to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all Canadian goods on his first day in office.

President Trump then suggested to Prime Minister Trudeau that Canada become the 51st province, but the prime ministers looked nervous and laughed, sources told Fox News.

But he went on to tell Trudeau that while he could be governor of the 51st province, prime minister is a better title.

Sources told Fox News that there was more laughter when someone at the table interjected and suggested to Trump that Canada would become a liberal nation. President Trump has suggested Canada could become two states, one conservative and one liberal.

The nearly three-hour conversation continued on a variety of other topics. By the end, Canadian guests described the dinner as “very friendly, very positive,” but there was no mention of becoming the 51st province.
