Trump’s DHS Rejects Schumer’s Claim That DOGE Contributed to Ship Crash

DHS Responds to Schumer After Brooklyn Bridge Incident

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) pushed back against Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer’s remarks on Sunday concerning the recent incident where a Mexican naval vessel collided with the Brooklyn Bridge. Schumer suggested that staffing cuts made by the Trump administration might have contributed to the accident.

In a post, Schumer hinted at a link between the job reductions in various federal agencies, stressing that the situation raises questions about national security and public safety. He expressed concern over whether Trump’s policies have impacted water traffic control associated with the incident, stating, “I’m fighting for answers on whether Trump and Kuji have affected water traffic control.”

DHS countered Schumer’s claims, asserting that his remarks regarding employment cuts at the Coast Guard were inaccurate. The agency maintained that the Coast Guard is adequately staffed and that the crash did not relate to vessel transport services. They urged Schumer to verify his facts before potentially misleading the public, stating, “The accusation of insufficient staffing is false. The US Coast Guard is fully supported and exempt from frozen employment.”

As of now, there has been no immediate response from either Schumer’s office or DHS regarding further comments on the situation.
