Sen. Jim Banks Discusses Trump’s Approach to China
During an event focused on the threat posed by China, Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) shared his thoughts with Breitbart News, underscoring that President Donald Trump’s “Don Roe Doctrine” signals a clear message: China is not welcome in America’s sphere.
Banks expressed his hopes for what President Trump might prioritize in his upcoming visit to Beijing, particularly in his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. He pointed out that in Trump’s second term, a significant focus has been on China’s economic challenges and the use of tariffs, which he believes have captured the attention of communist nations.
“We’ve seen their economies take a hit because of this,” he stated. “In Indiana, where we take pride in being the manufacturing hub, our economy saw improvement. I recall that on Emancipation Day, major firms like Eli Lilly, General Motors, Honda, and Toyota announced they would bring jobs and investments back to Indiana and the U.S., reclaiming our state from China,” Banks recounted.
While acknowledging the accomplishments, he emphasized that challenges remain. The race in artificial intelligence is a key issue for him. “We can’t compromise our interests by sending our best resources to China while hoping they will act in our favor,” he remarked, noting that these topics were significant during Trump’s May discussions.
“In my final thoughts… establishing a new National Security Strategy that prioritizes our regional interests is crucial,” he added.
Banks stated that President Trump is essentially reaffirming the Monroe Doctrine, referring to it in various terms to underline that China is unwelcome in the U.S. “You are not welcome in our backyard,” he reiterated.
He highlighted this approach as the type of leadership he believes America needs. “We recognize what’s at stake,” Banks continued. “When Trump took office, the looming threats from China, Russia, Iran, and others were addressed—targeting China was key, which has helped reduce the impact of those other threats.” He sees these moves as historically significant, adding, “This is a pivotal moment, perhaps unlike anything we’ve seen before.”
