Trump’s Foreign Policy Job Approval Top of the 21st Century

Trump’s Approval Ratings in Foreign Policy

Currently, President Trump boasts the highest approval rating in foreign policy among 21st-century presidents. At this point in his second term, his approval sits at 43 percent, which surpasses both George W. Bush and Barack Obama during their respective second terms. Bush had an approval rating of only 36 percent, while Obama’s was slightly better at 37 percent.

Interestingly, Trump’s foreign policy approval has improved compared to his first term, moving from 35 percent to 43 percent.

Regarding the Israel-Hamas situation, Trump seems to be gaining ground, achieving a net approval rating of +3. This means that more people approve of his handling of the conflict than disapprove. In stark contrast, Joe Biden’s rating stands at -37 points on the same issue.

Essentially, Trump’s net approval regarding this conflict is a whopping 40 points higher than Biden’s. That’s significant.

While this may bode well for Trump’s legacy, which some might say could rival that of Franklin Roosevelt or Ronald Reagan, the looming midterm elections could pose challenges. Voter sentiment seems to hinge primarily on the economy right now, and dissatisfaction is prevalent. When it comes to elections, people often prioritize things like gas prices or the cost of groceries over foreign policy.

Furthermore, the 2026 midterms will be crucial for shaping the last two years of Trump’s tenure. Should Democrats retake the House of Representatives, they may initiate investigations and attempt to impeach him. This would likely lead to significant political turmoil.

There’s also a strategic aspect, where Congressional Democrats might use their influence to go after Vice President J.D. Vance in preparation for the 2028 presidential campaign. He will likely be seen as a primary target.

While foreign policy is undoubtedly critical, it often takes a backseat to more immediate concerns, like checking gas prices when driving.
