Trump’s former adviser on Biden’s economy: ‘I would be bragging about it, too’

Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, who served as chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) during the Trump administration, said President Biden is justified in touting strong economic numbers, adding, “I'm proud of that, too.'' I want to,” he said.

“I'm an honest broker.'' He posted good numbers for Q4 GDP of 3.3 percent, following 4.9 percent in Q3. If I were him, I'd brag about that too. . And inflation has gone down,” Kudlow said on Thursday's Fox Business Network (FBN) show.

“Love wars and politics are fair. Let's brag when we can. I get it. I've been there,” he continued.

But Kudlow took aim at Biden's “totally wrong” message Thursday in Wisconsin, playing footage of Biden saying: Trickle-down economics and tax cuts for the very wealthy and large corporations have significantly expanded the fiscal deficit. That's exactly what happened. He took well-paying jobs and sent them overseas. ”

“He can't help himself,” Kudlow said of Biden before defending the tax cuts under President Trump.

Kudlow also looked at the GDP numbers, saying he was concerned that government spending is the biggest driver of the economy.

“Biden's improvement in GDP in the second half of last year is a good thing. I'll admit that. Now, let's be honest here: Those are the numbers,” Kudlow added. Mr. Biden is right to boast about lowering inflation. Yes, I understand. But the problem with these GDP reports is that the biggest contributor to growth is government spending…which is unhealthy and will ultimately lead to inflation. ”

The economy has continued to grow in recent months, but voters still say they trust former President Trump more than Biden on the economy. And while consumer sentiment about the economy is starting to improve, there is still little sign that voters are giving Biden credit for the improvement.

This number is likely to be important in an election year. Trump leads his primary opponent, Nikki Haley, in The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters national polling average, but has not yet secured the nomination. The Hill/Decision Desk's average poll of a hypothetical Biden-Trump rematch shows Trump with a 2.2 percentage point lead, at 43.8% to Biden's 41.6%.
