Trump’s IVF Proposal Would Be ‘Very Expensive’ or Hike Insurance Premiums

On Friday's NewsNation broadcast of “The Hill,” Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) said that a proposal by former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to either have the government pay for IVF or ask insurance companies to cover the costs would either result in the government footing the bill for a “very expensive” elective procedure, something the government has nothing to do with, or it would lead to higher insurance premiums.

“This is an elective procedure and I believe elective procedures have nothing to do with the government,” McCormick said. “Just like I don't want the government to pay for an abortion, I don't want them to pay for pregnancy or the procedures that come with it – procedures that are very expensive. Similarly, I think this is where the government gets confused when they start making it mandatory and say insurance companies should pay. So who do you think is going to pay for the increased premiums? The consumers. So because of one person who wants to get pregnant, everyone else has to pay. This is a big issue and I understand people want to get pregnant and I understand that it's important, but I don't think the government had the constitutional responsibility or authority to get involved in this discussion.”
