Trump Predicts Republican Success in Upcoming Midterms
In a Labor Day message, Donald Trump expressed confidence that Republicans will secure significant victories in the crucial midterm elections scheduled for November.
Trump shared his thoughts in a post on Truth Social, where he also criticized Democrats. He wrote, “Happy Labor Day to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics, Communists, and Dumocrats who will do anything possible to destroy our Country. These Deranged People, after fighting for 10 years, should finally acknowledge that your Favorite President (ME!), knows how to WIN!”
He continued, “They should be exhausted by now but, sadly, they’re not. They’re going to give it one last shot at ruining America, but we’re not going to let that happen. We’re going to win the Midterms, BIG, and SAVE AMERICA!”
Currently, Republicans have a slight edge in the House of Representatives, holding a majority of 218 to 214 over Democrats, with one independent. In the Senate, they maintain a 53-47 lead when all senators are present and voting.
Historically, it’s quite challenging for a party that controls the presidency and both chambers of Congress to retain their majorities during midterm elections. This feat has only successfully occurred twice in history for a majority party, most recently in 2002 when Republicans expanded their control following the 9/11 attacks, and earlier in 1934 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Nevertheless, a recent Harvard-Harris poll offers some encouraging news for Republicans. Among likely voters, 51 percent indicated a preference for Republicans, while 49 percent leaned towards Democrats, giving the GOP a slight 2-point advantage. This finding contrasts with broader polling trends that show Democratic candidates generally with an edge on the generic Congressional ballot.
The poll was conducted between August 28 and August 30.
Trump’s remarks come as Republicans prepare for a unique midterm Republican Convention taking place in Dallas, Texas, this week. Additionally, the Trump-aligned Super PAC, MAGA Inc, has commenced its efforts by pledging $10 million to support the Texas Senate race featuring Republican Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico.
