Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) told Breitbart News in an exclusive statement that Honda's decision to bring car production to Indiana is a prime example of President Donald Trump's leadership.
The bank said: “Today's report is great news for Indiana and the country. It shows what President Trump's leadership and the First Generation can do for our country. There's even better news over the next four years!”
Reuters reported that the Japanese automaker will produce the next generation of citizen hybrids in Hoosier state.
The outlet reported that the decision to bring automobile manufacturing to the state was a direct result of Trump's economic policy.
The change highlights how manufacturers are in a hurry to adapt to US President Trump, who proposed a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada. While several automakers have expressed concern about taxation, Honda's move is the first concrete measure by major Japanese auto companies.
Japan's second-largest automaker was first planning to build the next-generation Civic in Guanajuato, Mexico, according to the three. According to one of the people, production was scheduled to begin in November 2027.

Currently, the company plans to build a new civic model in Indiana starting in May 2028, with approximately 210,000 people expected to produce annually, one person said. Honda would try to import from a country that is not subject to tariffs if production in Indiana is low, one of them said.
Breitbart News reported that Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are aiming to boost American car production to avoid Trump's planned car rates.
“If they have a factory and a factory here, there are no tariffs,” the 47th president said in mid-February.
Nissan CEO Uchida said on February 13 that Trump's tariffs could remove car production from Mexico.
In a keynote speech at the American Institute of Steel, the bank explained how President Trump saved the steel industry.
“President Trump saved the steel industry during his first term, but we've been backing down as the Biden administration has turned a blind eye while China and others have been drilling holes in American tariffs over the past four years,” he said during his speech.
“He took the manufacturing industry back to Indiana and helped the hard-working Hoosiers pay. Trump saved America's dream,” Banks said.
“The Senate is committed to doing everything we can to advance the President's first American trade agenda,” Senator Hoosier said.
