Trump's military parade for the Army's 250th anniversary encounters protests and storms

Military Parade Celebrating 250 Years of the US Army Takes Place in Washington

Washington – A significant military parade was held on Saturday evening to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Army in the nation’s capital.

Many attendees, including veterans, families, and youths, gathered downtown, sporting “Make America Great Again” hats and patriotic attire while also celebrating Father’s Day.

As President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived, the crowd showed enthusiasm, welcoming them with applause and chants of “America!” Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and Vice President JD Vance garnered cheers as well.

Before the parade kicked off, live music pumped through the air, and attendees swayed to the beat while coping with the summer heat. The crowd even sang “Happy Birthday” as the event officially commenced, followed by chants of “We Love Trump.”

The parade started near the Lincoln Memorial and concluded near the Washington Monument at around 9:30 PM. This celebration not only honored the military’s long history, established a year before the Declaration of Independence, but it also coincided with Flag Day and Trump’s birthday.

This patriotic event was part of Trump’s “Task Force 250,” announced in January to honor the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026.

The festivities featured parachute teams from the Army Golden Knights, historic military vehicles, and soldiers interacting with the crowd along Constitutional Avenue.

However, the parade unfolded amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles against the administration’s attempts to address illegal immigration, which had surged following a recent strike on Iran initiated by Israel.

Weather posed a challenge for the parade, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms in the afternoon and rain expected that evening.

Protests against the military parade have emerged in various cities, including a planned demonstration in Washington, where groups expressed their discontent with the government’s actions. Close security measures were in place, with Secret Service agents, police officers, and military personnel positioned throughout the area. Attendees were subjected to metal detectors before gaining access to the parade route.

“No Kings” protests were held across different cities, even as the demonstrations took a peculiar turn in nearby areas like Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia.

Trump responded to inquiries about the protests during a recent event, asserting, “I don’t feel like a king. We have to work hard to see results.” He added that anyone disrupting the parade would face “very heavy forces.”

Trump’s administration characterized the event as the “largest” military parade in US history. Defense Secretary Hegses celebrated the festivities, emphasizing pride in honoring the military in such a significant manner.

The planning of the parade included approximate attendance of 6,600 personnel, with over 150 military vehicles and 50 aircraft planned to participate.

In the backdrop, the geopolitical landscape shifted dramatically as Israel launched a strike on Iran, heightening tensions and setting the stage for further developments.

Trump had given Iran an ultimatum prior to the strike, insisting on compliance that they did not meet.
