Withdrawal of Nomination for DHS Position
The White House has decided to withdraw the nomination of Richard “Lance” Shroyer, a former Oklahoma State Trooper, for the position of assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
On Thursday, the White House announced a list of nominations that have been rescinded, which included Shroyer’s name. However, the announcement didn’t provide any specific reasons for the withdrawal of his nomination or those of the others listed.
Interestingly, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, had previously blocked any confirmation hearing for Shroyer. His reasoning was tied to a demand for more information regarding incidents involving two individuals, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were involved in altercations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis earlier this year.
When Shroyer was nominated in June, President Trump had expressed confidence in his qualifications, praising his extensive 29 years of law enforcement experience in Oklahoma on Truth Social. He referred to Shroyer as a “PATRIOT” with substantial operational experience and leadership, emphasizing his commitment to law enforcement and immigration issues.
In addition to Shroyer, the list of withdrawn nominations included Jeffrey T. Anderson, a former Delta Air Lines pilot, who had been nominated as a U.S. representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) council but faced significant opposition from a pilots’ union.
John Grunewald II, nominated for a position on the Farm Credit Administration Board with a term ending in October 2030, also saw his nomination withdrawn. Similarly, Heidi Semann, acting Inspector General for the Department of Education, had her nomination for the department’s inspector general pulled. Lastly, Robert Stebbins, currently serving as Vice President and General Counsel for the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), had been nominated for the Deputy Chief Executive Officer role at the DFC but appeared on the withdrawal list as well.
