Former President Donald Trump’s plane suffered “mechanical issues” on Friday, forcing it to make an unscheduled landing in Montana, The Washington Post has learned.
Trump’s Boeing 757, nicknamed Trump Force One, was en route to Bozeman, the main site of the Republican presidential candidate’s Friday night campaign rally, but was rerouted to Billings, about two hours east, around 4:30 p.m.
“His aircraft experienced mechanical difficulties and was redirected to land at Billings Logan Airport,” an airport spokesman told The Post.
“He will be flying to Bozeman on a private jet,” they added.
The nature of the mechanical problem is unknown.
Trump, 78, appears unfazed by the incident. In a video shared by his campaign on X.
“I just landed in Montana, a really beautiful place,” he said in the video from the plane.
“It’s so beautiful when you fly over it and you just look down. That’s the way it should be,” he added, noting that it’s “very well-regarded in Montana.”

The Bozeman rally will be Trump’s first outdoor event since the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Republican Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who is running to unseat Democratic Senator Jon Tester, is also expected to appear with Trump at the rally.
The Trump campaign did not respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment.
