State of the Union Highlights
President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address on Tuesday, where several prominent figures from media, business, and politics were in attendance.
Guests included Erica Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, David Ellison, who heads Paramount, and Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank.
During his speech, Trump called attention to various attendees. Erica Kirk specifically condemned all forms of political violence, echoing Trump’s stance: “We must all come together to reaffirm that America is one nation under God and completely reject political violence of any kind.” This statement brought to mind the tragic death of Charlie Kirk, who was killed during a political debate at Utah Valley University in 2025.
The U.S. men’s hockey team also received accolades after winning gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Trump congratulated the team as they celebrated in the chamber.
Melania Trump invited a young education advocate named Everest Neblaumont, and the president challenged the nation to support the next generation for a more successful future. He mentioned guests like Enrique Marquez, a former political prisoner from Venezuela, to highlight international achievements during his administration. The U.S. had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in early 2026, which Trump believes gives the U.S. better negotiating power.
Additionally, Trump recognized military personnel by awarding Purple Hearts to Sergeant Andrew Wolf and the late Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, both affected by a tragic shooting in Washington, D.C. last year.
While some high-profile figures like O’Leary engaged informally with Congress members, Trump highlighted their presence but did not reprimand them. O’Leary, known for his ventures and political commentary, has become more vocal on various political issues recently.
Ellison, who has a somewhat lesser known political presence, has previously supported Democratic candidates but now claims to be on friendly terms with Trump. His recent attention came as he attempted to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, aspiring to further solidify his influence in the media landscape.
Amidst Trump’s address, Ellison was seen with Senator Lindsey Graham, who expressed his pride in having Ellison as a guest.
