Tua Tagovailoa: 'A privilege' to join Trump's athletic council

Tua Tagovailoa Joins Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition

Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins quarterback, has been appointed to President Donald Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. He joins former and current athletes, including notable figures like Bryson Deccanbaugh, Lawrence Taylor, and Annika Sorenstam, who were present at the White House last week when Trump signed an executive order that reinstated fitness tests for Congress and the presidency.

Although Tagovailoa couldn’t attend the signing due to training camp commitments, he expressed pride in being part of the council. “I think it’s pretty cool— that’s an honor,” he remarked.

Tagovailoa admitted, though, that he’s a bit unclear about how the whole appointment came about. It’s a little confusing, honestly, and I think many might find themselves in similar situations when unexpected opportunities arise. Other athletes nominated to the council include Gary Bettman, Roger Goodell, and Wayne Gretzky, among others. Interestingly, Saquon Barkley decided to decline the nomination.

In a more personal connection, Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, previously shared a moment on Instagram featuring Tagovailoa participating in family activities, which adds a human touch to his public persona.

Additionally, Tagovailoa’s wife, Annah, has shown her support for the president on social media, even celebrating his proactive approach to Hurricane Milton last October. Yet, this hasn’t come without its challenges. She faced some backlash for their political ties, especially following Tagovailoa’s recent concussion, which has raised concerns about his long-term health and future in the NFL. It seems, you know, that even in the world of sports, personal and political lives can intertwine in unexpected ways.
