Security Clearances Revoked by DNI Tulsi Gabbard
Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), announced on Tuesday that she has stripped 37 individuals of their security clearances. These individuals include current and former intelligence professionals.
According to reports, Gabbard accused these individuals of betraying public trust by politicizing intelligence. She referenced the ongoing assessments related to alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
“It is a privilege, not a right, to hold a security clearance. Those who breach their oaths to the Constitution and prioritize personal interests over the American people have broken the sacred trust,” Gabbard noted in a statement.
The memo identified these 37 individuals as having engaged in misconduct, including failing to adhere to proper procedures and misusing their positions. Gabbard’s communication emphasized that the security clearances were immediately revoked.
The memo further stated, “Access to classified systems and information must be terminated right away. Any contracts or employment with the federal government will also be ended, and these individuals need to return their qualifications to the appropriate security personnel.”
Included among those affected were notable figures, such as former Prime Ministers Stephanie O’Sullivan and Vinh Nguyen. It has been mentioned that some of these individuals participated in investigations connected to the 2016 election allegations.
Gabbard’s remarks on the revocation highlighted the need for integrity in national security, arguing that such actions undermine both national interests and democratic principles.
In a related note, Samantha Vinograd, previously involved in national security under President Biden, has also revoked security clearances for other former officials during her tenure.
Comments from various figures, including Andrew Miller and Lauren DeJongge Schulman, further indicated a trend of security clearance revocations among individuals linked with past administrations.
