Tulsi Gabbard revokes security clearances for 37 intelligence personnel

Security Clearances Revoked for Intelligence Officials

On Tuesday, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Tarshi Gabbard, made a significant announcement regarding the security clearances of 37 intelligence officials, both current and former. These officials were accused of political manipulation and misconduct.

The memo released on Monday listed individuals from several agencies, including the CIA, NSA, and the State Department. This action ties back to concerns raised in a 2017 review about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“Having security clearance is a privilege, not a right,” Gabbard stated in a post on X. “Those in the intelligence community who betray their oaths and prioritize their own interests over those of the American people have breached the trust they were sworn to uphold.”

Among the notable names on the list are former intelligence officials like Brett M. Holmgren, who previously served as the Secretary of State for Research, and Richard H. Leggett, a former deputy director of the NSA. Others include Stephanie O’Sullivan and Luke R. Haltig, both former senior figures in their respective agencies. Additionally, the memo mentions Yael Eisenstat, known for her role at the CIA and her work in election integrity.

Gabbard indicated that the decision to revoke the clearances was made under direction from President Donald Trump. She emphasized the need for the intelligence community to uphold the values and principles of the US Constitution, highlighting a commitment to ensuring the safety and freedom of all Americans.

The memo specified that the revocations took immediate effect, ending access for these individuals to classified systems and materials. It also stated that any ongoing contracts or employment related to government services would be terminated.
