Trump to Attend US Open Men’s Singles Final
President Donald Trump is set to attend the US Open Men’s Singles Final this Sunday, marking more than ten years since he began his campaign for the White House.
Reports indicate that the network broadcasting the event at Flushing Meadows in New York City has been instructed not to air any negative reactions or cheers directed toward him.
According to Bounce, a tennis-related source, the American Tennis Association (USTA) reportedly sent this directive to the station. They stated that, “the president will be shown on the global feed and on the Ash Court’s feed during the opening ceremony.” Additionally, they asked broadcasters to “refrain from introducing confusion or reactions” regarding his presence, including during Electronic News Gathering (ENG) coverage. The USTA regularly urges broadcasters to minimize confusion from the courts.
This year’s final will feature Jannik Sinner competing against Carlos Alcaraz, with Sinner having won the championship last year against American Taylor Fritz.
Trump has attended the US Open several times in the past, the most recent instance being in September 2015 with his wife, Melania, where he was seen with John McEnroe. His presence at various sports events isn’t new; he frequently participated in occasions like UFC fights and Pittsburgh Steelers games during his campaign.
The US Open Men’s Final will be aired on ESPN for U.S. viewers. In addition to this event, Trump is planning a busy sports week and is expected to attend a New York Yankees game on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and the Ryder Cup at the end of the month.
