On Saturday afternoon, two construction workers were found unconscious in a stairwell in Little Italy, leading to their deaths. It was a sunny day, yet the crowd in the bustling area didn’t seem to be very respectful as first responders worked on the scene.
The men, aged 35 and 34, were discovered in an apartment at 118 Mulberry St. when help arrived around 3:45 PM, according to the NYPD.
One of the workers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim was given CPR and transported on a stretcher, but diners and passersby at nearby establishments like Casabela and Manelo pizza appeared largely indifferent to the situation.
However, one woman was noticeably upset when the police arrived, reacting to the somber atmosphere.
The man who was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital eventually died there, police confirmed.
The cause of death for both remains unclear.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
