Two innocent teenagers injured in daytime shooting in NYC, third bystander barely avoided harm

Authorities report that two innocent teenagers lost their lives and a third bystander narrowly escaped injury when shots were fired at Block Light on Thursday.

The two 17-year-old boys were outside a five-story building located at 265 E. 176th St. when the gunfire erupted around 1:20 p.m., according to the police.

One of the teens sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm, while the other was shot in the neck, as officials and sources indicate.

Although it seems neither boy was the actual target, it appears they were struck in crossfire based on initial reports from sources.

A bullet hit a Toyota Highlander that had recently been parked by 44-year-old Christian Santos. He had just exited the vehicle for work when the shooting started; one bullet struck just behind the driver’s seat, narrowly missing him.

Emergency medical personnel transported the two teenagers to Columbia Elders Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition early Friday, according to the FDNY.

The suspect, described as a man wearing all black, managed to escape the scene on foot, sources reported.

No arrests have been made yet, and the shooting is currently under investigation.

Data indicates that in District 46, where the shooting happened, there have been 15 shooting victims and 12 shooting incidents recently. These figures show a slight increase compared to the same time last year. However, overall instances of gun violence have decreased by nearly 24%. The Bronx community remains shaken, particularly after the tragic death of another innocent teenager, Ebbett Jeffrey, who was shot and killed in May.
