Two of Four Detained Individuals Recaptured in New Jersey
Federal officials reported that two of the four individuals who escaped from an immigration detention facility in New Jersey were recaptured on Thursday.
The men, originally from Honduras, apparently fled from the Delaney Hall Detention Facility. Reports indicate that one of the escaped individuals poses a “threat to public safety.”
The two recaptured are identified as Joel Enrique Sandoval Lopez and Joan Sebastian Castaneda Rozada. Authorities are still searching for Franklin Norbert Bautista Reyes and Andres Felipe Pineda Mogoron.
The FBI’s Newark division shared images of the remaining fugitives and is offering rewards up to $10,000 for information leading to their arrests.
Bautista Reyes is alleged to have entered the U.S. illegally during the Biden administration in 2021.
In a related report, local police recently apprehended suspects for various charges, including assault and possession of weapons. These incidents have raised concerns in the community.
Sandoval-Lopez entered the U.S. unlawfully as a minor in 2019. He was arrested in October for possessing a handgun and again in February for aggravated assault.
Castaneda Rozada entered the U.S. in 2022 and was detained by local police for robbery and conspiracy in May.
Pineda Mogoron entered the U.S. in 2023 and has faced multiple arrests for theft and conspiracy related to robbery.
The four individuals reportedly escaped by kicking through a wall that was allegedly built without proper authorization. New Jersey Senator Andy Kim commented on the facility’s construction standards, indicating that they were concerning.
This same detention center has been in the news before; in May, a congressperson faced charges for allegedly inciting a riot there. The situation remains tense, and video footage has documented interactions between officials and ICE agents during protests.
The charges have drawn attention from local officials, who have been involved in what they describe as necessary oversight of the facility’s operations.
