Two Ohio women charged after driving to bank, propping up dead man in car to withdraw his money

Two Ohio women allegedly supported a deceased man in their car during a bank visit and withdrew hundreds of dollars from his account before driving him to the hospital.

According to Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell and the Ashtabula Prosecutor’s Office, Karen Kasbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Ferraro, 55, took the body of Douglas Layman, 80, to Ashtabula on Monday. When the women dropped Layman off at the emergency room, medical personnel had no idea who Layman was.

“They left without giving any information to the hospital. They just left him there,” Stell told FOX 8.

Stell said in a press release that one of the women called the hospital several hours later and provided personal information about the man, allowing authorities to identify him. Kasbohm and Ferraro were taken into custody Wednesday and each charged with felony abuse of a corpse and theft.

Rayman’s cause of death is unknown.

Stell told FOX 8 the incident is still under investigation and the two women could face additional charges.

Kasbohm appeared in court this week for arraignment, and a judge set her bail at $5,000. Mr. Ferraro is scheduled to appear for arraignment on Thursday.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to one year in prison on each charge.

Both women have past criminal records.
