Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson Wins GOP Nomination for Governor

Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson has successfully claimed the Republican nomination for Governor after a competitive primary, where he faced off against six other candidates.

Now, he is set to contend with the winner of the Democratic primary, likely to be Kansas State Senator Cindy Holscher, who is currently leading the early returns.

Masterson secured around 42% of the vote, establishing a strong lead over second-place Philip Sarnecki, who garnered approximately 21% of the votes, with the other candidates trailing behind.

In the Democratic primary, Holscher is leading with about 47% of the early votes counted.

Former President Donald Trump continued to bolster Masterson’s campaign by participating in a statewide tele-rally aimed at mobilizing Kansas voters for the GOP primary.

“Ty Masterson is fantastic and has my complete and total endorsement because he puts America first like we all do, and he puts Kansas first,” said Trump. He praised Masterson’s commitment to election integrity, stating, “if you don’t have integrity with elections, you don’t have a country.”

Trump also acknowledged Masterson’s efforts toward reducing taxes, specifically property tax in Kansas. He reiterated his support on social media, highlighting that Masterson would run alongside U.S. Senator Roger Marshall.

“A highly successful Small Business Owner and Entrepreneur, and Kansas’ very popular State Senate President, Ty has dedicated his life to serving his Community,” Trump remarked.

Masterson’s position as the leading candidate in the primary has largely been reinforced by Trump’s endorsement. His campaign message focuses on the idea of “taking back Kansas.”

“In the Legislature, I led efforts to pass a $2 billion tax cut for Kansans,” Masterson stated on his website. “As governor, I will keep cutting taxes until Kansas is one of the most affordable states to work, raise a family, and start a business.”

Besides tax cuts, he is advocating for pro-growth policies aimed at job creation, enhanced funding for police, strict crime policies, and empowering parents in the educational process, emphasizing the need to focus on basic subjects rather than what he refers to as “woke nonsense.”

On the other hand, Holscher is promoting plans to boost funding for public schools and special education, expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, legalize recreational and medicinal marijuana, and raise the minimum wage.
