Tyler Robinson taken into custody related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk

Assassin Identified in Charlie Kirk Shooting

Authorities have apprehended the individual responsible for the shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen — we got him,” stated Utah Governor Spencer Cox during a news conference on Friday.

Investigators had initially planned to withhold images of the suspect unless they struggled to identify him. However, early on Thursday, the FBI released photos of Robinson and solicited public help, even offering a $100,000 reward for tips leading to his capture.

Later on Thursday, during a press briefing delayed due to ongoing developments, the FBI shared additional images and a video showing Robinson on the roof from which the shot was fired, requesting further assistance from the public.

President Donald Trump, speaking on *Fox and Friends*, expressed “high certainty” that the suspect had been caught and commended law enforcement for their efforts.

“A family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who, in turn, informed the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, indicating Robinson had confessed or implied his involvement,” Governor Cox explained.

Robinson was seen arriving at the campus in a grey Dodge Challenger around 8:29 A.M. Wednesday, and the family member confirmed he was driving that vehicle.

“Investigators spoke with Robinson’s family, who noted he had grown increasingly political over recent years,” Cox added.

The family member described a conversation where Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk being present for an event at the university. They discussed their dislike for Kirk and his viewpoints.

Cox conveyed that the family member remarked Kirk was perceived as spreading hate.

Further interviews with Robinson’s roommate uncovered Reddit messages from Robinson indicating a need to retrieve a rifle, along with information on where the firearm would be left. These messages revealed a change in Robinson’s attire between his campus arrival and his escape, which clarified discrepancies in initial descriptions of his clothing.

“The messages also referred to engraved bullets,” Cox noted, adding that some inscriptions found on bullet casings hinted at possible motives.

The governor shared messages discovered on casings, which included various phrases and signs, potentially revealing the suspect’s mindset. Notably, he also confirmed that Robinson was not a student at UVU.

“I want to thank Tyler Robinson’s family for doing the right thing,” Cox emphasized, urging continued thoughts for Charlie Kirk’s family.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “This is what happens when you let good cops be cops,” expressing pride in the collaboration that led to justice for Charlie Kirk’s family.

Governor Cox articulated the significance of the case, stating that it represents a broader issue of political violence impacting society.

“This incident isn’t just about the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk; it’s an attack on all of us, on the American experiment and our ideals,” he stated, lamenting how Kirk’s life was taken while exercising free speech.

Cox concluded by noting, “Taking his life in that moment makes it harder for others to share their ideas and speak freely,” emphasizing the ongoing challenge of addressing violence in a society that fosters open dialogue.
