The well-known star from the “Fast and Furious” series has been arrested in early September for allegedly causing the death of a small dog.
Tyrese Gibson, 46, recognized for his role as Roman Pierce in the franchise, is facing accusations of neglecting to control his four cane Corso dogs, which have frequently escaped from his home in Georgia.
He stated to Fulton County Police that a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of animal cruelty.
According to authorities, Gibson’s large pet, often kept as a guard dog, is said to have attacked a neighbor’s five-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named Henry, on September 18th.
Security footage reportedly shows Gibson’s dog scratching the door of a neighbor’s home just moments before the spaniel was killed while outside for a bathroom break.
Police mentioned that this incident marked the sixth time that Gibson’s dog had escaped and roamed freely in the neighborhood within that single week.
Colonel Nicole Dwyer, commander of Animal Services at the Fulton County Police Department, indicated that there had been multiple warnings issued to Gibson before the incident took place.
On September 22, Gibson promised to surrender the dog to animal control, but later hesitated, wanting to reconsider for a few more days.
Dwyer stated that Gibson remained resolute even after being informed that a search warrant might be necessary if he did not comply.
Subsequently, arrest warrants were issued on September 29, as confirmed by a statement from Gibson’s lawyer.
The attorney added, “After this unfortunate event, Gibson made the tough choice to find a safe and loving home for the dog. He is fully cooperating with the authorities regarding the misdemeanor warrant.”
Gibson expressed his condolences to the family who lost their cherished pet during this distressing incident that occurred while he was away.
On Tuesday, he shared an edit of the dog playing with two Pomeranians, although it’s unclear to whom they belong.
Reports from a local television station mentioned that audio from their coverage of the attacks on Henry was played alongside this video.
Gibson rose to fame through his participation in the “Fast and Furious” films, alongside his late friend Paul Walker, who tragically died in a car accident in 2013.
Since then, Gibson has been focusing on reviving his R&B career while seeking more film roles.
In 2024, he faced backlash for allegedly refusing to pay full child support amid a contentious divorce lawsuit with his current wife.
He was briefly detained during a court session following a heated exchange with the judge.
