A US soldier was captured in Russia last week, according to a US military spokesperson.

Staff Sergeant Gordon D. Black was stationed in South Korea and traveled to Russia for personal reasons, not official business, according to multiple U.S. officials.
He was taken into custody on May 2ndn.d.. Officials said the man is suspected of stealing from the woman.
U.S. military spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith said in a statement that the soldier was arrested in Vladivostok, Russia, “on suspicion of criminal activity.”
“The Russian Federation has notified the U.S. Department of State of the criminal detention pursuant to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations,” Smith said. “The Army has notified his family and the U.S. State Department is providing appropriate consular assistance to the Russian soldier. Due to the sensitive nature of this matter, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the United States is “aware of this incident and other issues related to Russia,” but added, “I can’t say much about it right now.” ” he said.
Meanwhile, the United States is trying to secure the release of two other Americans who have been held in Russia for several years.
Former Marine Paul Whelan has been imprisoned in Russia since 2018 on charges of espionage, but the United States and his family say he was falsely accused. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020.

Additionally, an updated travel advisory was issued in September, with the United States warning against travel to Russia for months and appealing to Russian nationals to leave the country immediately.
