U.S. Military Action in Iran May Start Within 24 Hours as Bases Reposition Forces in the Area

Military Action Against Iran Under Consideration

President Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating military action against Iran, which could happen “within the next 24 hours,” according to information shared by European officials through Reuters. Meanwhile, the Pentagon has started to pull personnel from significant U.S. military bases in the Middle East. Tehran, on its part, has warned of retaliation should Washington carry out any attacks.

A report from Reuters highlighted comments from two European officials who believe the possibility of U.S. military involvement is rising. One noted that action could materialize very soon, while an Israeli official suggested that President Trump seems to be leaning toward intervention, though the specifics remain somewhat unclear.

This shift in possible military action aligns with the ongoing drawdown of certain personnel from U.S. bases, widely interpreted as being preparatory for an attack. U.S. officials have indicated this reduction includes the strategic removal of troops due to rising tensions, particularly after senior Iranian figures threatened to target U.S. military installations in neighboring countries if attacked.

An anonymous Iranian official stated that Iran had warned nearby nations, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, that American bases within their borders would be targeted if an attack on Iran were to occur, urging these countries to exert pressure on the U.S.

Qatar has confirmed layoffs at Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military base in the region, citing “current regional tensions” as a motivating factor behind these personnel reductions.

According to diplomats mentioned in the report, some individuals were told to leave Al Udeid by Wednesday night. They emphasized this was a strategic shift rather than a full evacuation, noting that there were no immediate signs of significant troop withdrawals similar to those seen before last year’s Iranian missile assault.

Additionally, the UK has started similar personnel reductions at its military air bases in Qatar, mirroring the evolving U.S. stance while evaluating future actions.

A separate Reuters report indicated that the personnel cuts are primarily focused on those deemed non-essential. However, U.S. officials acknowledged that options being considered by the White House include additional strikes aimed at regime-linked infrastructures and possible cyber operations, pending President Trump’s approval.

The changing dynamics in the region occur against a backdrop of severe internal unrest in Iran, labeled as the most intense upheaval since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Reports of fatalities are mounting, with one Iranian official claiming over 2,000 deaths and human rights groups estimating more than 2,600 deaths, although these figures are likely low due to government restrictions on information.

Breitbart News cited independent assessments placing the death toll much higher—over 12,000 nationwide, amidst communications blackouts and mass graves.

The same Iranian official claimed that communication between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had been halted, blaming U.S. threats for derailing nuclear negotiations.

Iran’s strategy mixes domestic oppression with overt warnings to U.S. forces, emphasizing that any attack from the U.S. would result in consequences for U.S. military installations.

Senior Iranian advisor Ali Shamkhani pointed out Iran’s past missile strikes on Al Udeid as representations of its capability to respond to potential U.S. actions, especially following last year’s attacks on its nuclear sites.

President Trump’s strong warnings coincide with government crackdowns. In a CBS News interview, he stated that any executions of protesters would elicit “very strong action” and underscored that any retaliation from the U.S. would be “unprecedented.”

This shift in tone has been accompanied by increased public messages from President Trump concerning support for Iranian protesters. There was a call for “Iranian patriots” to continue their demonstrations and to assert control over state institutions, along with promises that aid is forthcoming and that the regime’s oppressors would face severe repercussions.

Just earlier this month, President Trump clearly established a threshold, warning that the U.S. would face serious repercussions if Iran engaged in mass killings, while his administration moves to diplomatically and economically isolate the Iranian regime.

The U.S. State Department has also cautioned about the increasingly precarious security situation, advising citizens to leave Iran due to the escalating violence and clampdown.

Currently, there seems to be a parallel between the stated timelines and military positioning, as U.S. forces scale back their presence in key bases, while Tehran asserts it will target U.S. interests if provoked.
