U.S. Mint Reveals Upcoming 2026 Proof Sets
The U.S. Mint has unveiled images of two eagerly awaited offerings: the Clad 2026 Proof Set and the 2026 Silver Proof Set. These sets will feature special editions commemorating the 250th anniversary, with most coins dated and designed as limited releases for the year.
All coins from the Mint’s flagship Annual Set are crafted at the San Francisco Mint, finished with a frost design and a reflective background. In contrast, regular circulating coins come from the Denver and Philadelphia Mints.
The 2026 set is particularly notable for its semiquincentennial-themed coins, and it includes cents. After these denominations are phased out of circulation, cents will only be available through collectible products.
Release Date
The 2026 Silver Proof Set is set for an April 14 launch, while the Clad 2026 Proof Set will follow during the typical summer timeframe. The Mint had previously opened subscriptions for both sets, which enable subscribers to receive each release automatically, with advance email notifications. As of now, it seems this subscription option is “currently unavailable.”
Pricing and Specifications
Details regarding pricing remain limited, but the announced prices are $107 for the Clad 2026 Proof Set, a substantial increase from last year’s $40.25, and $245 for the Silver Proof Set, which is up by $95 from its previous price of $150.
The silver set comprises 10 cents, 5 quarters, and 5 dollars, all minted in .999 fine silver, totaling 1.473 troy ounces.
Coins in the Sets
Many of the coins will showcase dual dates from 1776 to 2026 and distinctive semiquincentennial designs. Among them are the Emerging Liberty Dime, the Enduring Liberty Half Dollar, and five quarters highlighting significant historical milestones such as the Mayflower Compact and the Declaration of Independence. The Jefferson Nickel and Lincoln Cent will feature their traditional designs alongside the Dual Date. The Native American Dollar, though not associated with the semiquincentenary theme, will still present unique one-year designs.
Sales Trends
Historically, proof sets have been among the Mint’s best-selling annual offerings. Since 2018, sales numbers for clad proof sets have varied, reaching from 304,815 pieces (2025) to 601,364 pieces (2019), while silver sets ranged from 124,113 (2025) to 415,382 (2019).
