US Military Launches Offensive Against Iran

On Wednesday night, the U.S. military initiated a new offensive against Iran after President Donald Trump declared intentions to respond “very hard” to an attempted ballistic missile attack on American forces in Jordan the previous day.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that military action was taken against Iran, framing the operation as “a forceful response” to the earlier missile threat. The attack began at 8:00 PM Eastern time, according to CENTCOM, and targeted numerous sites across Iran.

Following the assault, CENTCOM shared that Iranian military forces had completed their own wave of attacks by 10 PM ET, claiming to respond to the prior missile incident. The U.S. strikes reportedly hit various locations, including military headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, missile and drone facilities, and other defense and maritime capabilities, aiming to diminish the threat from Iran and its allies.

Additionally, over 50,000 U.S. military personnel are currently deployed throughout the Middle East, described as “extremely alert, focused, lethal, and ready.”

This news came shortly after President Trump had issued stern warnings to Iran about potential retaliation. In remarks made on Fox News, he stated, “We’re going to take the motherfuckers out of them,” promising significant military action.

Trump reiterated his plans for a military strike while speaking to reporters later in the day, indicating, “Now it’s our turn to attack them, and we’re going to attack them very, very hard.” The President mentioned that Iran was aware of the impending response but still acted aggressively.

The U.S. attack followed an earlier attempted Iranian missile strike on American forces in Jordan, where five missiles were launched but successfully intercepted before they could reach their intended targets.

Hours after the missile incident, U.S. and Saudi forces targeted Iranian-backed militia positions in Iraq in response to drone strikes on U.S. and Saudi facilities.

Reports from Iranian media noted explosions in several southern Iranian locations, although U.S. authorities had not confirmed the specific targets of Wednesday night’s actions. This operation marks the first direct U.S. strike on Iranian territory since President Trump halted previous military efforts, which had spanned 13 nights targeting Iranian military sites.

It appears CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper had previously advised that the prior bombing campaign had achieved its goals and suggested that further strikes might not yield significant military advantages without a broader escalation.

Overall, this latest U.S. attack illustrates a sharp intensification in military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, particularly following the missile attempt and a week of increased military activity across the region.
