United Auto Workers (UAW) President Sean Fein doubled down on his support for President Biden after the president cheered him on at the State of the Union.
“Joe Biden has a history of serving people and being there for working class people, and Donald Trump has a history of serving himself and representing the billionaire class,” Fein said. said. Said He spoke during an interview with hosts Simone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez and Michael Steele on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” on Saturday.
Biden called Fein a “great friend and great labor leader” in his State of the Union address. Mr. Fein, whose union endorsed Mr. Biden in January, attended the speech as a guest of the White House.
“[W]Even when we express our support…we don’t support it – we don’t tell our members who to vote for,” Fein said in an interview on MSNBC. “We’re taking the facts, we’re taking a body of work and delivering it, and we’re telling our members, ‘Look, we’re looking at these things.’ This person has our best interests at heart. Someone who I believe represents well and best represents the interests of the working class.”
Biden delivered a fiery and energetic State of the Union address Thursday night. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who sat behind Biden during the speech, expressed disapproval of the speech.
“People say I made funny faces. I tried to keep a poker face, but it was very difficult. I vehemently disagreed with a lot of what he said, and I think people back home did the same. ” Johnson told reporters after his speech.
“I think there’s a lot of memes going around tonight about my facial expressions. I didn’t like that speech, I don’t think the American public liked it either, and there wasn’t much I could do about it. I think I didn’t hide it very well,” Johnson told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
Biden also went after Trump multiple times during his speech, days after the former president’s last major rival in the Republican presidential primary, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, withdrew.
