Unaired Video Shows Nancy Pelosi Admitting Responsibility for Not Having National Guard at Capitol

New video footage provided to House Republicans shows then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) accepting responsibility for not allowing the National Guard to secure the Capitol ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, protests.

The video is, POLITICO Note“It was featured in a video filmed by the former Speaker’s daughter, documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, and recently provided to congressional investigators by HBO.” The video was never aired, and Alexandra Pelosi did not provide it to the January 6th Committee that was supposedly investigating the Capitol attack.

The January 6th Committee also never subpoenaed Speaker Pelosi or her daughter for documents related to the riot.

The video supports former President Donald Trump’s claim that House Speaker Pelosi was to blame for not preparing adequate security ahead of the protests. Trump offered to send in the National Guard in the days before the “Stop the Steal” rally but was rebuffed. (Critics later criticized Trump for not stepping in sooner to deploy the National Guard during the riots.)

In the video, Pelosi can be heard lamenting, “We are responsible… We have had no accountability for what was going on there. And we should have… Why wasn’t the National Guard there in the first place?”

She continues, “I blame myself for not having them. [the National Guard] Just preparing for war.”

Pelosi then refused to nominate a Republican candidate to serve in the minority position on the January 6 committee — the first time a majority leader has done so in congressional history — and instead appointed two anti-Trump Republicans, resulting in an entirely one-sided investigation that refuses to hold Pelosi accountable for her role in the incident.

Despite the investigation being one-sided, prosecutors used investigative procedures to build criminal cases against Trump and his supporters.
