Resolution Introduced to Block Trump’s Military Involvement in Iran
Rep. Thomas Massey, a Republican from Kentucky, has put forward a resolution aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from engaging in military actions in Israel. He argues that the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel is “not our war.”
Massey, known for his libertarian views that often challenge party norms on fiscal and foreign policy matters, is teaming up with a group of progressive Democrats, led by Rep. Ro Khanna from California. Their goal is to stop what they term “illegal hostility” between the U.S. and Iran. However, the resolution is expected to be largely symbolic, facing anticipated resistance from House GOP leaders regarding any military action against Iran.
I just introduced the resolution of Iran’s war powers @Reprokhanna It bans our involvement in the Israeli-Iran war.

The proposed resolution would necessitate a congressional vote to give Trump the authority to utilize military force against Iran. Correspondingly, Senator Tim Kaine from Virginia has introduced similar measures in the Senate aimed at constraining the president’s war powers concerning Iran.
Other bipartisan support for these resolutions comes from various Democrats, including Reps. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib from Michigan, Ayanna Pressley from Massachusetts, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York.
Tlaib pointed out the painful history of misleading claims about “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq, stressing the many lives lost as a consequence. She also stated that it is unconstitutional for Trump to initiate war without a congressional vote.
While Massey and these left-leaning Democrats may disagree on many domestic issues, they share a strong skepticism regarding military interventions abroad.
The Trump administration has historically refrained from intervening in Israel’s military actions against Iran, but there seems to be a growing impatience from the president regarding the Islamic regime. He hasn’t ruled out the use of military force either.
In a recent statement, Trump noted, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding,” referring to Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He emphasized the challenge of ensuring civilian safety while expressing frustration over the current situation.
The House is currently in recess, but Massey and Khanna may try to push for a vote on the war powers resolution next Monday. Previous efforts by House GOP leaders have successfully blocked resolutions that aimed to limit the president’s authority regarding military action.
