Unhinged traveler attempts to escape from Frontier Airlines flight to Chicago, leading to emergency landing in Miami

Flight Diverted After Passenger Assault

A Frontier Airlines flight was rerouted to Miami following a disturbing incident involving a passenger who attempted to force open an exit door and access the cockpit, according to reports from authorities.

The flight, designated as Flight 3345, had taken off from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Sunday and was en route to Chicago O’Hare International Airport when the crew reported a “passenger disturbance,” as stated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Witnesses, including flight attendants and passengers, described a chaotic scene where a man was trying to open the exit door, claiming he needed to get off the plane. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office mentioned that the passenger disregarded requests from the flight crew to remain seated and ran toward the front of the aircraft, trying to enter the cockpit.

In a surprising turn, an off-duty flight attendant stepped in to help manage the situation by sitting near the disruptive passenger. Unfortunately, when this attendant briefly left for the restroom, the man attempted to grab his bag and even tried to strangle him.

Other passengers and the flight attendants quickly intervened and managed to restrain the individual while the plane diverted to Miami International Airport.

The aircraft landed safely just before noon local time. The passenger involved, whose identity remains unknown, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.

In a statement, Frontier Airlines acknowledged the occurrence and noted that despite the disruption, the flight continued on to Chicago several hours later.

A spokesperson for Frontier Airlines mentioned that law enforcement boarded the plane in Miami to remove the troublesome passenger, after which the flight resumed its journey.
