United Airlines Flight Redirected After Bomb Threat
A United Airlines flight headed to Chicago had to make an emergency landing in Missouri on Sunday. This decision came after a passenger claimed that his wife had a bomb in her luggage, as reported by various sources and officials.
A representative for United Airlines confirmed that Flight 380, traveling from Dallas to Chicago, landed in St. Louis early Sunday morning due to safety concerns.
The aircraft was diverted to St. Louis Lambert International Airport around 8:40 a.m. following the man’s assertion regarding a bomb, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Authorities later apprehended the man, though his identity and whether he would face charges remained unclear at that point.
Rhonda Hamm-Niebrugge, the airport director, informed the newspaper that all 119 passengers were evacuated promptly and waited in the concourse after the aircraft landed.
Bomb squads were dispatched to the Boeing 737-700, which remained under inspection more than two hours after the landing.
United Airlines later stated that law enforcement efficiently conducted the search and cleared the plane.
The flight eventually took off from St. Louis in the afternoon and landed safely in Chicago. Notably, this event follows a series of recent bomb threats that have stirred panic aboard flights.
Just days earlier, on November 4, a caller had threatened to detonate a United Airlines plane upon its arrival at Reagan Washington National Airport unless air traffic control transferred over $500,000 in cryptocurrency.
This led to emergency responders rushing to the runway, and planes at the airport were grounded temporarily. Similarly, on that same day, a Delta Air Lines flight was evacuated at LaGuardia Airport after a bomb threat was reported by a flight attendant.
Officials at St. Louis Lambert International Airport did not immediately respond to requests for additional comments.
