Security Concerns Halt United Airlines Flight
A United Airlines flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles had to return to Hawaii early Wednesday due to “potential security concerns” that were noted on a bathroom mirror. Flight 1169 left Daniel K. Inouye International Airport at about 9:40 PM on Tuesday but was redirected back to Honolulu.
After the concerns were reported, the Boeing 777 safely returned to the airport. United Airlines confirmed this incident, stating that law enforcement was alerted and a security sweep was undertaken onboard.
The airline’s spokesperson highlighted that the flight landed back in Hawaii at around 1:35 AM. It’s unclear what specific details were found regarding the security issues on the aircraft.
Following this, an investigation involving the FBI was initiated to look into the matter. Despite inquiries, there wasn’t a clear statement from authorities on whether any arrests had been made or concrete information regarding the nature of the threats. Honolulu Police have since connected with the FBI for further questions related to the situation.
In light of this event, United Airlines is making arrangements for affected passengers. A spokesperson mentioned that travelers are being rebooked on alternative flights to Los Angeles that are scheduled to leave later on the same day. The flight carried a total of 339 passengers along with 10 crew members.
