Severe Turbulence Injures Flight Attendant on United Airlines Flight
A United Airlines flight to French Polynesia experienced extreme turbulence over the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a serious injury to a flight attendant.
This incident involved Flight 115, which took off from San Francisco International Airport en route to Papeete on Sunday. The airline confirmed that while one crew member was hurt, all passengers remained unharmed.
The plane landed safely, with emergency services ready for any necessary assistance. The aircraft in question was a Boeing 787-9, identified by tail number N23994, and it had 165 individuals on board.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has categorized the occurrence as a turbulence-related event, and they are currently investigating the situation.
Aviation experts point out that while turbulence incidents can be unsettling, they rarely cause significant harm. Data from the Federal Aviation Administration indicates that flight attendants are generally at a higher risk for injuries during turbulence, mainly because they tend to be standing or moving around the cabin.
In a statement, United Airlines noted, “United Flight 115 encountered moderate turbulence en route to Papeete, injuring a flight attendant. The customer was not injured, and the plane landed safely, met by paramedics upon arrival.”
