Missing University Student in Barcelona
A 20-year-old student from the University of Alabama, originally from the Chicago suburb of Elmhurst, has gone missing during a spring break trip. According to his family, James “Jimmy” Gracie was last seen early on March 17 after leaving Shoko, a restaurant and nightclub by the waterfront.
His mother, Therese Gracie, shared on Facebook that he had been with a friend but they got separated at the end of the night. “Everyone is looking for him,” she wrote, expressing deep concern.
The family’s spokeswoman, Noreen Herron, revealed that police found Jimmy’s cellphone while detaining another individual. His family mentioned that he had not arrived at the Airbnb they had booked in Ronda de Saint Pere, which was in the city center. He traveled to Spain to visit a friend studying there.
Therese Gracie noted that Jimmy was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, possibly joggers, and he had a gold chain adorned with a rhinestone cross.
Herron informed that Jimmy’s father, Taras Gracie, has traveled to Spain and is in communication with local police in Barcelona. The family is also in touch with officials from the State Department.
As of now, local authorities have not responded to inquiries regarding the case. Jimmy Gracie is described as standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds.
The university student, who is involved with the Theta Chi fraternity in Tuscaloosa, was previously seen at a Toys for Tots event last December, where he helped gather over 300 items for children. His friends and family are hopeful for his safe return.
Shoko, where he was last seen, is known for its stunning views of the Mediterranean and is recognized as one of the top nightclubs globally. While general admission is 10 euros, VIP experiences can be significantly more expensive.
