The gunman, a former professor who killed three people at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in December, had oxycodone and erectile dysfunction medication in his system when he opened fire in a targeted attack.
According to the Clark County coroner’s report, Anthony Polito, who had repeatedly tried but failed to secure a college professorship, had the erectile dysfunction drugs tadalafil and 15 nanograms per milliliter of oxycodone in his system. Obtained by 8 News Now.
The typical dosage of oxycodone prescribed for adults is 5 milligrams every six hours, according to the report.
According to the coroner, Polito, 67, died from six gunshot wounds to the face, neck, chest, abdomen, elbow and leg during a shootout with police.
The disgruntled former professor, who had taught at another university for more than a decade, shot and killed three UNLV processors on Dec. 6 and wounded a fourth.
Lee School of Business professors Dr. Jerry Cha-Jean Chan and Dr. Patricia Navarro Velez, and College of Liberal Arts professor Dr. Naoko Takemaru were killed by Polito.
The coroner’s report also said laminated index cards with names and room numbers found in Polito’s possession indicate there were other targets he would have pursued had he not been killed by police.
The shooter taught at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, from 2001 until he resigned in 2017. At least two students have accused him of making inappropriate comments and advances while he was at the university.
In 2016, a former student came forward with allegations against him after he made comments about her attire in front of the entire class.
“My teacher told me that if I wore an open-neck shirt for the rest of the semester, I’d definitely get an A,” Christine Marshburn said.
She immediately reported his lewd comments to the dean of the business school, and after the report, Polito never returned to class.
He resigned from his tenured position as an associate professor in January 2017. It is unclear whether the reports and investigation into his comments were the reason for his resignation.
Portio then applied for a teaching position at UNLV but was rejected about nine times, 8NewsNow reported.
