Arizona GOP Rep. Abe Hamade Celebrates DOJ Dismissal of Police Investigations
On Wednesday, Arizona GOP Rep. Abe Hamade hailed a significant development as the Trump-era Department of Justice announced the discontinuation of the Biden administration’s remaining lawsuit against several police departments, including the one in Phoenix.
Hamade has been vocal about ending what he views as the DOJ’s overreach against police, a stance rooted in the aftermath of the 2020 George Floyd protests. In communicating with Fox News Digital, he highlighted the importance of this decision.
The DOJ revealed it would reduce its “Patterns and Practices” probes, a move critics had long argued was driven by political motivations, hindering police officers in their duties. “Today marks the end of a misguided initiative that restricted local law enforcement agencies and imposed unjust consent orders,” the Attorney General remarked, referring to the department’s shift in approach.
During the Biden presidency, the Phoenix Police Department had been a focal point in ongoing investigations. A report had suggested civil rights violations, claiming the department discriminated against minorities and used excessive force.
Alongside Phoenix, investigations into various other jurisdictions—including Trenton, New Jersey; Memphis, Tennessee; and others—were also terminated by the DOJ. The Police Sergeants Association and the Arizona Brotherhood Police Order released statements applauding Hamade’s efforts regarding this matter.
PPSLA President Ben Roschner expressed gratitude for Hamade’s commitment, stating, “We appreciate Rep. Hamade for delivering on his promises. This was a significant win for justice, benefiting the community we serve.”
Hamade underscored his commitment to law enforcement, saying, “Before taking office, I pledged to stop the misuse of the judicial system against our police and to collaborate with President Trump’s DOJ to rectify the damages from the previous administration.”
He also referenced a meeting with FBI Director Kash Patel, addressing the alleged targeted attacks against law enforcement under the Biden administration. “It’s essential we support our officers who are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our communities,” he added.
In response to the DOJ’s decision, Arizona State Police President Paul Sheldon expressed appreciation for Hamade’s allegiance, looking forward to further partnerships aimed at enhancing community safety.
