Trump Criticizes EU for Gaza Aid Shortcomings
In a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland, former President Donald Trump expressed his discontent with the European Union’s lack of assistance to Gaza. He emphasized that while the U.S. has contributed millions in aid, European countries have been notably absent in their support.
Trump argued that despite the loss of many lives, a deal is crucial between Israel and Hamas to end the conflict and secure the release of the remaining hostages. He remarked, “Parents want those bodies just as much as they want their living children,” highlighting the emotional toll on families affected by the situation.
He also suggested that Hamas is hesitant to finalize any agreements regarding hostages. If they lose leverage over Israel, it could be detrimental for them, he believes. “They had a discussion, and it seems they’ve become more resolute. Israel is faced with a tough choice,” Trump noted.
This conversation coincided with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announcing their ongoing efforts to deliver aid to Gaza, despite a previous slowdown in these operations. On Sunday alone, the IDF reported conducting 28 air drops of aid across the region.
While the IDF asserts its commitment to humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza, they have disputed claims regarding widespread hunger, attributing such narratives to Hamas propaganda. Meanwhile, hunger continues to be a pressing issue due to stalled agreements on aid distribution, as highlighted by recent reports.
