US-Canada hockey game marked by booing at national anthem and 3 fights in 9 seconds

Fans of the American and Canadian hockey games in Montreal booed during the US national anthem, with three fights exploding in the first nine seconds of the match.

This is the first time a fight has occurred in an international hockey tournament since 2004, but it is also at the point of tension between the two countries. Washington Post reported.

The sold-out crowd at Bell Centre in Montreal booed during the US national anthem, causing a series of brawls to break out.

The game's announcers asked fans to “kindly respect the national anthem and players” in both French and English, the Post said.

Earlier this month, Canadian fans also booed in the US national anthem in protest against President Trump's plan to impose tariffs on neighboring countries.

President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have agreed to Canada retain tariffs for a month in exchange for Canada.

Canadian officials point out how uncomfortable citizens are with the plan, especially after Trump has repeated his desire to win the country and turn it into a 51st state.
