US, Iraq team up to kill 15 ISIS operatives in early morning raid, US military says

The US military said 15 Islamic State members were killed in a joint operation between US and Iraqi forces in western Iraq.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) tweeted: on friday In the early hours of Thursday, August 29th, U.S. and Iraqi forces killed 15 ISIS operatives.

The agency said the operatives were “armed with numerous weapons, grenades and explosive 'suicide' belts.”

The U.S. military noted that there were no civilian casualties in the operation.

“ISIS remains a threat to the region, our allies and our nation, and U.S. Central Command will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists, along with our coalition and Iraqi partners,” he added.

Thursday's raid came about a week after U.S. forces killed a senior member of an al-Qaida-linked militant group in Syria.

The news agency said Abu Abdul Makki, a senior member of the Khoras al-Din (Guardians of Religion) group, was killed in a “kinetic energy attack.” Makki was “responsible for overseeing terrorist operations from Syria,” it said.

“Central Command remains committed to the enduring defeat of terrorists who threaten the United States, our allies and partners, and regional stability,” Gen. Michael Eric Kurilla, commander of Central Command, said in a statement.
