US reveals strong increase in Iran blockade, advises regime to 'make careful choices'

U.S. Military to Intensify Actions Against Iranian-Flagged Vessels

WASHINGTON – The U.S. military has pledged to “aggressively pursue” Iranian-flagged vessels and any ships aiding the regime globally. This announcement was made by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain on Thursday, as part of an effort to expand Iran’s port blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition to targeting key oil chokepoints, Kaine mentioned that U.S. military facilities would also keep an eye on shipping activities in various other regions, including the Indo-Pacific area.

“The Joint Force, under Admiral’s command, is actively seeking Iranian-flagged vessels or any vessels providing support to Iran,” Cain stated during a media briefing. This was emphasized alongside the ongoing operations in different areas, highlighting a broadening military engagement.

“This also includes vessels known as Dark Fleet, which are typically involved in transporting Iranian oil and are often illegal vessels that skirt international laws, sanctions, or necessary insurance requirements,” he added.

Army Secretary Pete Hegseth had a message for Iranian leaders: “Choose wisely.” He encouraged them to consider agreements that could be beneficial for both their citizens and the broader international community, signaling a thoughtful yet firm stance from the U.S.

President Trump first announced the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. By Tuesday, U.S. Central Command confirmed that the blockade on Iranian ports had been established. However, Kaine clarified, along with White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, that traffic unrelated to Iran can still move through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Let me be clear: this blockade targets all ships, regardless of where they hail from, entering or leaving Iranian ports,” Cain explained, emphasizing that the focus would be on Iranian territorial waters, not a total closure of the Strait itself.
