US Men’s Soccer Roster Released Ahead of World Cup
The much-anticipated roster for the US men’s soccer team is finally here, marking a significant moment in the history of the program.
This 27-man squad was unveiled on Tuesday and is set to gather later this month for a crucial training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted on home soil in just a few months.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team will head to Atlanta for training next week, where they are scheduled to play notable friendly matches against Belgium and Portugal.
While the core group, featuring stars like Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, is strong, some noticeable absences are evident, stirring some debate among fans and analysts.
Gio Reyna, known for his unpredictable playing style and past controversies, has received a call-up, which could bolster his chances of being on the World Cup roster.
Anthony Robinson, who has often been called ‘The Jedi’, made the list despite a challenging year plagued by knee injuries.
Unfortunately, key players like Tyler Adams, Sergiño Dest, and Haji Wright will miss out due to injuries.
On a positive note, Yunus Musah and Josh Sargent are in good health and ready to take the field.
As for the goalkeeping situation, presumed starter Matt Freeze and backup Matt Turner will be joined by newer faces Chris Brady and Roman Celentano, both of whom recently made their way to MLS.
However, 19-year-old defender Noakai Banks, who plays in Germany and has the option to represent both the U.S. and Germany, did not make the cut this time, despite his potential.
The complete roster is as follows:
Goalkeepers (4): Chris Brady (Chicago Fire), Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati), Matt Freeze (New York City FC), Matt Turner (New England Revolution)
Defenders (9): Max Alfsten (Columbus Crew), Alex Freeman (Villarreal/ESP), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse/France), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC), Chris Richards (Crystal Palace/England), Anthony Robinson (Fulham), Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati), Joe Scully (Borussia Mönchengladbach/Germany), Auston Trusty (Celtic/SCO)
